FCC Releases Docket 19-193 for Improving LPFM Technical Service

FCC opens a new rulemaking for changes to the LPFM technical rules.  FCC is proposing use of directional antennas, which can be helpful along the US border for complying to international treaty concerning interference, the repeal of protection of Channel 6 TV channels (FM band is adjacent to the non-virtual 6 TV channel), permitting larger distance changes within antenna relocation, and the use of FM boosters.  The FCC is also soliciting other possible small changes from commenters.  Deficient from the rulemaking is the proposed to allow for LPFM power upgrade from 100 watts to 250 watts.  The FCC is opting not to consider this due to ethos of the current administration.  Dkt 19-193 Notice of Proposed Rulemaking Public comments can be made via FCC ECFS.
