CF Submits Comment to FCC in Deregulatory Docket

In March 2024 FCC released a proceeding entitled Delete Delete Delete requesting members of the public to comment concerning what specific deregulatory measures it could take up to eliminate some of the FCC rules.  The request for comments spurred over a thousand comments in FCC ECFS.  Common Frequency participated in commenting to the FCC, offering its views on comments already filed with some new suggestions.  Quite a few broadcasters suggested eliminating what was left of the meager public interest rules (public file, ownership limitations, EEO rules, etc) due to the changed media market.  CFI spoke out on what to eliminate to streamline for broadcasters, yet why several parts of the rules where still relevant, either for sake of public interest, or to maintain fairness in broadcasting.  CFI also suggested an upgrade to unlicensed Part 15 AM broadcasting, and potentially a "pay to play" broadcast model, adding a public interest fee to go toward noncommercial media as a commercial broadcaster's public interest contribution, in exchange for substantial deregulation.
